How One Person Covers a Big Valley

Most pest companies cover distance by adding vans. Kekoa covers it by being straight about the drive. Kai Horner does every visit himself from 2407 E Wesleyan Dr in Tempe, so distance is a real part of how a visit gets scheduled.

That shapes three things. Visits close together are easier to fit in than ones at opposite ends of the Valley. A long drive takes up time that could go to another house, so far-out work takes more planning. And when the day is full, Kai will tell you, rather than promise a time he can't keep.

Tempe itself is covered on the Tempe pest control homepage, since that is where the business is based.

Close In: The East Valley

These cities are the regular work. Mesa is about 10 minutes from the base and Guadalupe about 13. Scottsdale, Chandler and Gilbert run about 15 to 16. Sun Lakes is about 26, and one customer there wrote about Kai on Google.

At these distances, a monthly schedule is practical. Each city has its own page on housing, pests and what the local yards are like.

Farther Out: Call First

Phoenix is about 22 minutes at its nearest, but it is a big city and the west side is well beyond that. The same goes for Pinal County and the West Valley. Apache Junction is about 30 minutes, Queen Creek about 37, and Surprise close to an hour. Buckeye and Florence are longer again.

These are longer drives for a one-person business. They are listed because Kai can take work there, not because he can reach them on a moment's notice. Call first to confirm scheduling, and ask how visit spacing would work before you start a repeat plan.

What to Tell Kai About Your Address

A city name alone does not settle distance, because Mesa and Phoenix run for miles. Four details do:

  • Cross streets. They show how long the drive really is.
  • One visit or a repeat schedule. A single trip to a far address is easier to fit than a monthly slot that has to hold all year.
  • The day you need. Hours are 6 to 5 on weekdays and 8 to noon on Saturday, so a long drive fits a weekday more easily than a short Saturday.
  • Gate or access details. A locked side gate on a long trip costs time for both of you.

Every City and County

The list below is grouped by county. Each card gives the estimated drive from Tempe and one line on what sets that place apart. Traffic on the US 60, Loop 101 and Loop 202 changes those times.

Most of the list sits in Maricopa County, with Pinal and Yavapai at the outer edges. If your home is outside any city limit, start with the Maricopa County, Pinal County or Yavapai County page.

Common questions

How far from Tempe will Kai travel for pest control?

The listed cities run from next door in Mesa to places more than an hour out, such as Florence and Wittmann. Closer towns are the everyday work. Past roughly 30 minutes from the Wesleyan Drive base, call before you plan around a date, because one person can only fit so much driving into a day.

Is my East Valley address too far for monthly service?

Probably not. Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Scottsdale and Guadalupe all sit within about 16 minutes of the Tempe base, and Sun Lakes is about 26. Monthly visits work well at that range. For a repeat schedule farther out, ask Kai what spacing he can honestly keep before you start.

Do you charge more for homes far from Tempe?

It depends, so ask on the phone. Distance is one of the things that can move a price, along with the pest, the size of the property and how often you want service. Tell Kai your city and cross streets and he will tell you plainly what the trip means for your visit.

My town is not listed. Should I still call?

Yes, call. The list covers the places Kai expects to work, and it does not settle every address in Maricopa, Pinal and Yavapai counties. Give him your nearest cross streets and the pest you are seeing. If he can't reach you on a sensible schedule, he will say so rather than overpromise.
